Dr. Marks is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and is licensed by the state of North Carolina. He is a clinical instructor at the UNC school of Medicine. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the New Hanover/Pender County Medical Society, the American College of Surgeons and the North Carolina Medical Society.
A recognized expert and frequent presenter in the field, Dr. Marks has a special interest in valve repair and replacement. In addition he received a grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and has been published in the professional journal Neuropsychology.
Dr. Marks grew up in Richmond, Virginia, attended high school in New Hampshire and went to college in Illinois. He returned home to attend medical school at the University of Virginia, and went on to an internship and residency at Barnes Hospital Washington University in St. Louis, and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He earned a Thoracic and Vascular Fellowship at the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa, and a Cardiothoracic Fellowship at Wake Forest University Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. He has been in private practice in Wilmington since 1988.
